Meesh Rheault Miller artist statement
While researching body printing and other artists that used this technique I came across Meesh Rheault Miller and connected very strongly with her Artist's Statement. The process of printing with the body was somewhat therapeutic for me because it forced me to focus on my existence. It is a full body creative process and can be quite exhausting because it grounds me into reality when in these trying times my brain wants to retreat into a more comfortable dissociative state. As Miller puts it, inking and pressing the body onto paper provides "a conduit to process and work through some of the more challenging events and issues in my life." My self image has evolved in a very judgmental environment that I internalised and I have struggled with being my biggest critic all my life. I have had revelations about myself during this 10month lockdown period so far and am grateful that I have had the chance to sit with these developments and focus more of my energy into evolving into the person I am becoming. As I grow I want to experiment with a more expressive style of work to embrace these new energies that are emerging inside me.
