decaying roses
I tried sticking some rose petals onto a page to see what it would look like and how the roses would decay if they had a sealing of PVA glue. I was hoping to conserve the beautiful salmony coral colour that was held in these petals but after even just one day the petals were slowly turning brown. I'm not quite sure where this was going but it was inspired by Anya Gallacio: "a British artist, who creates site-specific, minimalist installations and often works with organic matter. Her use of organic materials results in natural processes of transformation and decay, meaning that Gallaccio is unable to predict the end result of her installations." I enjoyed watching the roses slowly decay over the days so it turns out this may have just been an ephemeral sculpture that I created for myself. It makes me smile when I reflect and realise the power of the unconscious mind. I made this piece purely for myself because part of me knew that it would bring me joy. Art is so powerful. I looked at it everyday but forgot to photograph it most days because it was unpredictable how the decay would change the image. Might do more of these for me but don't know if I'll actively engage in this idea further.
