The Don't Let Go Line Dance

This was the beginning stages of the collaboration I embarked on with Barry Watson. I have adopted a much less precious approach to the curating of my blog because I have realised that I can't yet decipher which pieces will resonate with the audience so I have been posting a wider selection of sketches onto my Instagram is connected to my Facebook account to get feedback from my friends and followers. I was really surprised by the feedback from these pieces because when asked to pick a favourite one or few, no two people selected the same ones. My personal favourite would be (n.4) out of the 1 wall drawings and (n.10) for the 4 walls because I like that they have a signature vibe to them. The lines look sporadic but also symmetrical with big loops and I like this motif a lot.

As I talk this into my phone, Lula's dancing. Rhi’s painting. I feel safe and held in their company. Free to be whatever I am in this moment. To get myself into the zone I allowed myself to nest around the paper and surround myself by all the options I wanted to experiment playing with. Nesting helps me address the scarcity mindset that plagues my mind through generational trauma. It creates the visual representation of abundance around me which helps me use materials without worrying that I should be using them sparingly. Rethink. Refund. Reboot. exhibition piece and statement

Time-lapses of me creating the NON ESSENTIAL clown look on my face:  https://youtu.be/PRrkiDUsLp0 Second attempt:  https://youtu.be/ofEzy0CN_J0 These are the two time-lapses I ended up creating because after I had completed the first one on Saturday 20/03 and did the photoshoot on my own in my room I discovered that all the photos were blurry and I needed to redo it all. So on Sunday 21/03 I did the entire face paint again and this time I learnt from some mistakes I had made the day before so it wasn't all bad that I had to redo it all. I paid more attention to detail and only used body paint when creating the second look rather than using Acrylic paint for the white because when it had dried it was cracking and pulling on my skin. I also got my housemate to take the photos for me to focus the camera correctly. Another self portrait

I adore how the colours came out in the editing process of this photograph. The vibrancy gives me so much energy and adds power and drama to the composition. The effortless anonymity that the sunglasses bring to the face as I channelled my inner Andy Warhol. I cropped myself slightly off centre to represent how I am different and played with the levels in the colours to represent the two cultures that are a part of me. Blue for France and Red for England. The pink blend in the middle of the two colours is who I am. The pattern that Rhiana painted onto me led me to feel as if I was wearing a harness and less bare so my strength grew stronger with the paint on me. The wispy hair strands signify the imperfection and free will of nature and humanity. The outline around my forehead almost turns the layer of paint into a mask that I am wearing and makes me look more doll like.  I hope to be able to print this photo out professionally in the next semester and print it out huge!
