Trialing live performance piece

These line dance drawings are apparently "Screaming" to be performed so I thought I would give it a go. I am not the most comfortable in front of a camera so I was challenged by this project and experienced the pressure that performers feel. The outcomes are more comical than performative in my opinion. I need to increase my confidence in the choreography before attempting to perform it in front of a camera because I believe that is what is holding me back in both physical and creative ways.

I have decided to include these in my blog because I want to be able to look back at the end of the semester and see how far I have come from where this idea started. I can feel a fire starting to ignite inside of me and it is making me feel more alive than ever. I finally feel that I have found the path I am meant to create. I wake up excited to learn more dances to create more motifs. This is really special to me and I have been rewarded tenfold in support from sharing what I am creating with my friends on social media. I have always struggled with knowing what value I brought to other people because I could see the value in others and just couldn't identify it within myself.

Seeing the joy that my creativity has produced and the encouragement and support that I have received from people I could never have imagined has been the most rewarding experience I believe I have ever lived. I feel so blessed to be surrounded by so many good people in my life. I am going to keep sharing my art with the world because it is giving me hope and joy in this never ending pandemic.

I got the steps wrong at the end of this routine and it shows in the drawings for me but I wonder if others will see it too. The thing is, sometimes when you're dancing you get the steps wrong, and when you do, you keep dancing. I am embracing the error.

I reattempted the drawing off camera and it came out far more symmetrical because all the steps are present so I thought it would be interesting to compare them.

I also attempted the Jerusalema line dance but got lazy about turning the board so swapped feet colours halfway through. A big Oh Dear from me but also funny to watch in a cringeworthy way.

Finally I reattempted the Dance Monkey choreography and after initially getting the steps wrong I battled with myself to push through the frustration and see what continuing to dance after a mistake until the end of the routine would look like. It was a real test of character and a choice of how I wanted to work on this and this raw processing comes through on the video. This final motif was my favourite of the day because I loved the depth that the continuous repetition created on the board.
