The Havana Line Dance

Video showing close-up tour of piece: https://youtu.be/YcRXmiV8dX0
Real time video of entire creation of piece: https://youtu.be/_v7UrAcH6nE (skip to 00:30 to see the first wall of the choreography tracing, skip to 3:00 to see the second wall being drawn, skip to 7:00 for the dance routine in time to the music on top of the drawing)
The real time video is raw unedited footage of me powering through my awful working memory and getting the steps drawn out onto the paper. Luckily I had Maria there with me to offer me encouragement and support to keep going and I am glad I did because I think footage of this style will be the basis of the performance pieces I do so I need to get more confident in my performance skills and practice powering through even when things don't go exactly to plan.
I absolutely adore how the charcoal translates movement across the page with the smudges, and the contrast between the hard black marks crisp white paper, and the traces of footprints covering the steps of the routing. The paper that I started with was not cut straight in the slightest so when I wanted to document this piece I cropped the framing and edited the colours to enhance the marks made on the paper. I really like how both versions of the edits came out because I feel the light one represents what the drawing is whereas the black in the second photo is far bolder and the overall darker lighting creates a heavier energy that gives weight to the drawing.
I will be creating more line dance drawings like this one when my large roll of paper arrives.
